DocsCorp extends Content Crawler searching and processing capability to include MS Windows file systems for ILTA 2011

Content Crawler enhances search capabilities to uncover, recognize and mitigate the risk of non-searchable content in a Content Repository

Sydney, Australia—August 10, 2011

DocsCorp, a global leader in PDF integration and productivity software for law firms, announced today it has extended the capability of Content Crawler, an integrated analysis, reporting and processing framework, to include crawling of MS Windows local and network file systems. The latest version of the product will be officially launched at ILTA 2011 in Nashville, TN.

Commenting on the announcement, Dean Sappey, DocsCorp President, said “extending Content Crawler’s search capability into MS Windows file systems would significantly reduce the cost and effort of searching large volumes of ediscovery documents stored outside the Document Management System on network drives as well as minimize the risk of non-discovery of critical documents. Failure to locate a critical document in the ediscovery process can lead to sanctions, dismissal of claims, ultimate loss of case as well as undermining a firm's reputation,” concluded Sappey.

Make every document discoverable and searchable
Law firms have invested heavily in Document Management Systems as well as in search technology to ensure its employee’s have instant access to all the documents related to a case, the latest precedent or latest version of a contract. This can often be the difference between winning and losing a case. Despite this investment, up to 20% of documents may be non-searchable and therefore “invisible” to a firm’s search technology.

Documents often get saved and profiled in Content Repositories such as MS Windows folders and Document Management Systems through a variety of workflow loopholes – fax, scanner and email attachments. These image-based document workflows bypass the OCR processing that would make them text-searchable. Once saved into a Content Repository, these documents become completely “invisible” to search queries.

pdfDocs Content Crawler provides a framework for searching Content Repositories. It can identify, for example, non-searchable content in image files, PDFs and even email attachments. The files are converted to text-searchable PDFs using DocsCorp’s OCR technology and saved back into the Content Repository. Content Crawler can search and convert backlogs of legacy documents as well as actively monitor newly-profiled documents.

The release of the product earlier in March, 2011 was limited to integration with the Autonomy iManage 8.2 (or higher) and Opentext eDOCS DM 5.1.05 (or higher) document management systems. DocsCorp is currently working on WebDAV, MS SharePoint and Worldox integration.
