DocsCorp joins PDF/A Competence Center

Sydney, Australia – April 28, 2011

DocsCorp, a leader in PDF integration technology and productivity software for law firms globally, announced today it has been accepted as a member of the PDF/A Competence Center.

The PDF/A Competence Center was established after the publication of the ISO 19005 (PDF/A) standard in 2005. It is a non-profit association of more than 110 organizations and individual experts from 20 different countries dedicated to promoting the exchange of information and experience in the area of long-term archiving of documents.

“DocsCorp is delighted to be a member of the PDF/A Competence Center and looks forward to contributing to the worldwide acceptance of the standard. We are committed to allocating resources to raise general awareness and education on the benefits of PDF/A to the business and technology communities,”says DocsCorp President, Dean Sappey.

“PDF/A is becoming a key regulatory requirement in many countries and industries. In the United States, the Federal Courts have adopted the PDF/A standard for the electronic filing of case documents while in Europe governments and energy companies are increasingly requiring archived documents to comply with the standard."

“We provide our clients with an efficient, straightforward method of creating PDF/A-compliant documents using our pdfDocs Desktop product without the need to learn complex methods and workflows," concluded Sappey.

Documents stored on a local or network drive, in email attachments or in a Document Management System such as Autonomy iManage, Opentext eDOCS and Worldox can be added to the pdfDocs Desktop workspace with a simple drag and drop. Once in pdfDocs, users can combine documents or specific pages into a collated document, which can be output as a compliant PDF/A document with a single click.

Long live PDF/A
The PDF/A standard was developed to ensure that electronic documents are accessible and viewable long into the future. A key PDF/A requirement is that the document is 100% self-contained. This means that everything required to print or view the document is contained within the document: fonts, color profile information as well as metadata must be embedded in the document. Moreover, the PDF/A document cannot rely on external content or sources such as hyperlinks, scripting or multimedia. Nor can the document be protected in any way.
