Resolving comparison issues
Taft’s IT team began looking for replacement comparison software when the subscription for its legacy product was due to expire. Suddenly, a pop-up was showing in the application constantly, which was slowing users down. IT Enterprise & Practice Solutions Manager Sheryl Dale said the firm saw the task of finding a replacement solution as “an opportunity to be more cost-efficient.”
Sheryl explained that the firm’s search for an alternative led them to compareDocs because it knew of its good reputation throughout the legal technology community. In addition, compareDocs has functionality that the old product didn’t – including comparing Clipboard text (a simple copy and paste comparison workflow), Excel and PDF file comparison.
The pilot process
Sheryl and her team arranged a pilot group of 10 members of staff across various departments to trial compareDocs. “The compareDocs pilot process was successful,” said Sheryl. “The application deployed easily, and there were no issues. It integrates well with iManage, which was a big factor in our decision.” Importantly, staff found compareDocs to be a fast and accurate comparison tool that “works as it is supposed to.”
Deployment and training
After the pilot process, Sheryl began the work of rolling compareDocs out to the rest of the firm. To help get users up to speed, a DocsCorp sales engineer put together a compareDocs training video, and Taft’s product trainer made a side-by-side comparison video of what the old application did and what compareDocs does.
Since then, compareDocs is used by lawyers every day to compare Word, PDF, and Excel files. “A big time-saver for our staff has been comparing documents within an email without having to open the attachments first,” explained Sheryl.
