Q1: Can I compare PDFs or only Word documents?
A: Yes, you can compare PDFs using compareDocs. In fact, compareDocs compares PDF documents natively – meaning it doesn't convert the document to another format as part of the comparison process. This produces a faster and more accurate comparison result.
Q2: Can I compare multiple file types?
A: Yes, compareDocs can compare multiple file types. These document comparisons are possible: Word-to-Word, PDF-to-PDF, PPT-PPT, Excel-to-Excel, Word-to-PDF, and PDF to any text-based document format or image file.
You can even compare two or more text selections from Word documents or any other text source by simply copying it to Clipboard and pasting it directly into compareDocs.
Q3: What languages does compareDocs recognize?
A: Because of it's built-in OCR capability, compareDocs supports 180 languages, including Chinese, Korean and Japanese. Specify the document languages using the OCR Language Chooser to get accurate OCR results in every comparison.
Q4: Will our files stay secure if we use compareDocs?
A: Yes, files do not leave the premises when processed by compareDocs.
Q5: What's the difference between a comparison report with Track Changes or Redline?
A: Running a Word-to-Word comparison with output set to Track Changes will produce a Word document that will become the new working version. In this Word document, the Track Changes functionality to accept/reject changes is turned on.
Running any type of comparison with output set to Redline will highlight changes according to the rendering set chosen for document markup. It is easy to create, edit and save rendering sets for Track Changes or Redline markups.
Q6: Do I have to be a DMS user to use compareDocs?
A: No, you do not have to use a DMS to use compareDocs. compareDocs is available to single users, or any organization that needs a document comparison tool but does not have a DMS in which to integrate it.
DMS users can choose compareDocs Pro for out-of-the-box DMS integration as well as automatic detection and enablement of the installed DMS.
Q7: Can I use compareDocs on more than one device?
A: Yes, in some product versions compareDocs can be accessed on more than one device, including mobile devices. compareDocs cloud can be accessed through the web browser on any device including mobile, tablet and desktop. compareDocs desktop, however, can only be used on the Windows local machine it is installed on and licensed to.
Q8: Can I customize compareDocs?
A: Yes, compareDocs offers a number of customizable features.
Modify rendering sets: Users can choose from a variety of Word or PDF rendering sets for document markup. These can be edited and saved to use for all comparisons or just certain types. Word rendering sets can be modified to markup font, paragraph, and character changes.
Edit comparison settings: Document comparison settings can be modified to ignore certain changes.
Document comparison output: Each comparison creates a statistical summary report highlighting the differences it detected between documents. These reports can be customized to be a separate document, or included in comparison outputs as the first or last page. It is also possible to generate separate Change Summary and Detail reports or add these to the comparison report for simplified file sending.
Q9: Why can't I just use the Microsoft Word comparison tool?
A: The Microsoft Word comparison engine doesn't offer the same speed or levels of accuracy as compareDocs. The Word comparison tool has no Redline output capability, no DMS integration without a third-party add-on, and well-documented reliability problems and misleading results.
Q10: What are the system requirements for compareDocs?
A: compareDocs desktop runs on Windows 10 and Windows 8 with Microsoft Office installed. It also supports Terminal Services and is certified Citrix ready. For a complete list of supported platforms and system requirements please refer to the compareDocs datasheet.
Q11: What can compareDocs integrate with?
A: compareDocs Pro offers out-of-the-box integration with leading DMS providers including Contentworker (FormPipe), DMS4Legal (Epona), iManage Work, Lexolution DMS, Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft SharePoint Online, NetDocuments (ndOffice), OpenText eDocs DM, ProLaw, and Worldox.
Now that you have all the answers you need, try compareDocs to see the difference for yourself.
